Specifics
The lake is located on Mt Vranica. It encompasses the area between the valley of the rivers Vrbas and Bosna and its tributaries Bistrica and Fojnica RIver. Three types of protection are located within the boundaries of the reserve. A number of plant species which belong to categories of rare, sensitive and endangered species are present here, as well as a high percentage of endemic species. The area is a habitat of an endemic subspecies of an Alpine newt. The following peaks are of interest: “Debelo brdo”, “Glavica”, “Ćoso”, “Tikva”, “Treskavica”, “Zelena gromila”, “Stražica”, “Runjvica”, “Vratolom” and “Krstac”.
Current State
The road to the lake starts in Fojnica — for the most part of 21 kilometer it is a dirt road. There are signposts along the road. There’s an entrance fee. There are around 250 illegally built summer houses around the lake, some of which offer food and drinks.
Allowed
Depending on the protection level, different activities are allowed, such is ecological rehabilitation of the existing hydro systems – “Prokoško” lake and sources; recreational activities; improvement of recreational infrastructure; the use of power installations when they blend with the ecological and spatial ambiance; traffic with special vehicles with the approval; development of a centralized waste management without throwing trash into bins; erecting information content from adequate materials, sanitary logging, mowing, recreational, educational and research activities; construction of tourism facilities for summer and winter tourism in the area between Vlašićka Ravan and Hrid; construction of public parking lots for visitors.
Prohibited
Disturbing the ambience; commercial extraction of raw minerals, hunting and fishing – except for sanitary; harvesting of medicinal plants; intentional introduction of invasive species; construction of all types of buildings; disturbing of natural hydrological regime; the use of open flame; disposal of liquid or solid waste, logging except for sanitary logging.
